Ryan Kirby attended South Texas College of Law, graduating in 2002 with a Juris Doctorate. Thereafter, Ryan worked for several litigation firms before changing his focus to oil and gas law in 2006, and thereafter founded Kirby, Mathews & Walrath, PLLC, in February of 2013. Ryan has conducted title examinations for a variety of conventional and unconventional plays in Texas, has negotiated and drafted numerous documents for oil and gas companies, as well as continuing to litigate matters related to oil and gas. Ryan is a frequent speaker at continuing education seminars for with landmen and Continuing Legal Education seminars. Ryan also serves an Adjunct Professor with South Texas College of Law since 2012, where he lectures on the subject of Texas Oil, Gas and Land Titles.
A landman since 1981, Curt has experience in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Utah, Louisiana and Montana. After joining the American Association of Professional Landmen in 1997, Curt earned his CPL designation in 1999. He currently serves on the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee as Chairman, having previously chaired the Certification, Ethics, Publications and Field Landman Committees, and the 2013 AAPL Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. He was elected to the Executive Committee as Treasurer for 2007-2008. Curt has been named recipient of the 2008 AAPL Education Award, the 2007 AAPL Best Member Communication Award, and the 2002 AAPL Field/Independent Landman Award. On the local level, he is a member of the North Houston Association of Professional Landmen and the Houston Association of Professional Landmen, having served in leadership positions for both.
Mr. Horne serves as an instructor for Energy Land Institute, the AAPL CPL/RPL Exam Review and other AAPL seminars, presenting topics which include Real Property Law, Contract Law, The Oil & Gas Lease, Title Opinions and Curative, Conveyancing, Interest Calculations, Negotiations and Ethics. He has also spoken on a variety of topics for the Texas Land Institute, HAPL, NHAPL, ALTAPL, SAAPL, NADOA, HADOA, NALTA, ALTA and NARO, among others.
Curt lives in the Houston suburb of Pearland with his wife Jamie and their daughter, age 20, and son, age 19. They are active parishioners at St. Helen Catholic Church, where Curt was the Chairman of the 2008 Parish Bazaar and Auction. Curt enjoys cycling and running, and has successfully completed the BP MS150, the Hotter'n Hell Hundred and the Houston Marathon.
Mr. McGhee is currently EVP Land, Regulatory & HSE for Bruin E&P Operating, LLC and was formerly VP of Land for Ursa Resources Group II LLC, a successful developer of the Piceance Basin of Colorado and the East Texas Eagle Ford. Before Joining Ursa Resources Group LLC, Mr. McGhee worked for AleAnna Energy, LLC where he was a partner overseeing AleAnna Energy’s oil and gas operations in the USA and the country of Italy. Prior to joining AleAnna Energy, Mr. McGhee worked for Shell Exploration & Production Co. where he was a member of the management Team for the company’s Perdido Development project, Gulf of Mexico, being the deepest development and production system in the world. Prior to his offshore assignment, Mr. McGhee was a Commercial Contract Negotiator for Shell International, with primary focus in South America. While at Shell he held various positions were he was responsible for managing all phases of land work. Mr. McGhee graduated from the University of Houston DC with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Land Management. His career following college involved all facets of land work with primary emphasis on interpreting, negotiating and drafting agreements in support of exploration and production operations working for various E & P Company’s. Mr. McGhee is a Certified Professional Landman with 34 plus years of industry experience; an active member in numerous industry organizations such as the American Association of Professional Landmen, Houston Association of Professional Landmen, Association of International Negotiators, Independent Petroleum Association of America, West Houston Association of Professional Landmen where he held all officer positions, including President and two terms as AAPL Director for WHAPL.
